We
have sensed God's calling to serve as missionaries for many
years, and we have made some attempts to pursue this calling
only to be met with rejection and closed doors. During the
summer of 2003 we were anticipating the adoption of twin girls.
We made preparation for the adoption, and our hearts were ready
to shower these babies with love. The birth mother changed
her mind, and needless to say, we did not become parents at
that time. So what did God intend by preparing our hearts to
love children so much? |

Before
we knew for sure the adoption would not be completed, I became
aware that the company for which I worked 21 years was going
to offer a voluntary severance package. My friend Dennis Rasche
asked me if I would take the severance. I told him that i would
like to do so, but I felt I needed to have some other work
lined up first. He said, "Why don't you go to Kenya and run the
orphanage?" I said, "Why not!" When I told Pam of this conversation,
she said she could not talk about Africa until she knew whether
or not the adoption was going to take place. I began to pray,
and once we knew for sure the adoption had failed, I revisited
the subject with Pam. She agreed to pray about it, and we soon
made the decision to accept the severance package and start
the pursuit of working with orphans in Kenya. |

Our
home church, Germantown Baptist, has actively prepared us for
the mission field by teaching and equipping us to share God's
heart for the nations. Through mission trips to the Dominican
Republic and various mission courses at GBC, God has given
us a passion for taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends
of the earth. |
 |
We
searched for a mission sending agency that would support us
to do the work to which God was calling us. Harvest
International was recommended to me by a friend and the search
was complete. We have been blessed with another family in Harvest
International. |

In
June of this year, Dennis and I made an exploratory trip to Kenya.
We met with missionaries, local pastors, evangelist, government
officials, orphanages, Kenyan believers as well as orphans
living in the streets. The contacts that God allowed us to
make during our short visit were invaluable. Our plans are
to work with an orphanage under Love and Truth Missions of
Kenya, and after getting our feet wet so to speak, we envision
starting a new children's home. |

God
has abundantly provided for us in so many ways, and we know
that the final details will be worked out in His timetable. Our
hope is to be on the field in Eldoret sometime in January 2005.
We are in the process of getting visas; obtaining a duty exemption
for shipping our household goods and charitable items to Kenya;
and finalizing all the other details of making such a move. |
